Chuckanut 50k

Short version:
5:42, 12 min. PR, Bonked in the middle, muddy.
Longer ...
After getting up in the middle of the night, we show up an hour early to the starting line and the dang lot is already full. We found a spot at a nearby school and walked over to the start. Luckily we didn't forget anything because there wouldn't have been time to go back and get it. It'll be interesting to see what this race is like next year at a new smaller start area.

My splits were nearly identical to last year.
1st a/s I got there 3 min. faster but gave back 2 mins. in the bathroom.
2nd and 3rd a/s were less than a minute faster.
4th a/s was about a min. faster even with the bonking.
5th a/s was about 4 minutes faster.
And the stretch to the finish was 6 minutes faster.

The conditions were a little worse than last year but I was expecting much worse considering all the rain we've had lately.

Today the whole family went into downtown Seattle for the BigClimb. My ankles weren't very happy with me after yesterday so I didn't run it. Jenn did awesome. You can go over to her blog and read all about it.

Congrats on the PR, Arthur! Thanks for the advice as well. I think you are right.

The course at Chuckanut is a tough one to decide how to run. All in all I got passed and did some passing on the last 6 miles to hold even.

Hope your ankles feel better soon!

Having good "road marathon speed" is a definite advantage on this course. I guess next year it'll be completely different. Now that I have the course figured out, it changes!

Pretty good deal to PR even with a bonk. That Jen sure packs a lot into a weekend - I think you must go to races to rest!

I never thought I'd see the phrase "PR" and "Bonk" in the same sentence in a positive light. :-)

Nice work at Chuckanut!

Dang, after reading Jon's comment, I'll have to change my blog post so I don't copy you and use "PR" and "bonk" in same sentence.

Who is that miserable looking chick in the first picture?

Great job on yet another PR. It felt like Freaky Friday out there...you had my uphill speed, and I had your downhill speed. What's up with that?

Do you always PR on every run you go to? Like always by 5 hrs? What are you drinking?
Good run, Arthur!

Smiling at first and focused later. A good omen for a PR. You seem to have consistenly improved over last year. That's excellent. Nice run.

Normally Fred doesn't post results. Some years one of the runners will publish the results for him.
